Suggestions for a good winter tarp?

looking for some advice on a good winter tarp? I have a HH sil hex..But the more I investigate on the forum it is becoming apparent I might need a different tarp for winter camping with some sort of door type wind / snow block..

Any advice on the various tarps available based on experience?

When asked why I sleep with my shoes on? I don't need to out run a bear, just need to out run my camp mates.

All I can contribute is that I absolutely adore my Warbonnet Superfly. Can't imagine better workmanship.

    Banjos,
I have numerous sized tarps for various seasons, but my 12 x14x Chinook is a super solution to my Winter tarp needs. Cat cut on the sides, it allows one to "close the ends" of each corner like doors and basically forms a nice tight tent around your hammock. I haven't done it yet, but I'm thinking that if you used some small bungee material to tie to your door stakes (or one of the various self-tensioning stake strategies) you would have
ends that could be spread apart to walk thru and be almost self-sealing on closure.
It still has with plenty of floor space for all the bulky winter gear one needs to carry to stay warm in winter. I think they can still be found for under the $60 range. My only suggestion would be to add some side pullouts to dramatically increase the elbow room inside the tent. Maybe 2 per side for maximum room.

If you are talking DIY then I highly recommend the Winter Dream by backwoods daydream. Good instructions and a great tarp.

for my money, WildernessLogics Old Man Winter can't be beat.
it is a very roomy tarp. if i could have only 1 tarp the OMW would be the one.

I own many tarps, cuben, custom winter with woodstove, OES MC Delux, but
my Tree to Tree 12x8 with 1 set of 2QZQ doors is my favorite winter tarp.
    Absolutely love it.

Get a Hammock Gear or Zpacks cuben if your looking to spend more and save weight or get a Superfly.

If you don't mind DIY - check out DIYGearSupply.com - scott's got some DIY plans for winter tarp, and he normally has some wide fabrics so you can make the tarp have more headroom
