VIDEO:French River Provincial Park Canoe Trip

Just a short report on a trip that got cut a little short. It was a beautiful area, crazy wind all day, dead calm and mosquito city all night.

    Good luck,

Great video. Bummer about the fire ban, but with all that wind, I could see why they enacted it.

Yeah, I've been in that wind situation. Something about the physics of canoes, I think.
Too bad about the fire ban. Looks like you had fun for a while, anyway.

Great video! Thanks for letting us ride along. I especially liked the underwater canoe shot. Makes me want to get the canoe out again.

Good video Red. Makes me think of all the native people and voyageurs who traveled there hundreds of years ago. Too bad about the fire ban,,,i wonder does that include alcohol and canister stoves?? . Anyway hope you got out for some time around WI. Thanks

    Hi Redoleary,

Very pretty country! Nice video. While winds are par for the course, having to call your trip short because of a fire ban is a real drag. But I'm glad to see that you were able to crank out some delicious looking baked treats on that reflector oven of yours. That's a nice piece of kit!

At least here in Ontario, alcohol, canister and white gas stoves are all permissible during a fire ban. I've gone through a number of bans over the years and they really only refer to open campfires or the burning of wood. While much more controlled, I really doubt that even bushbuddy's are allowed.

Thanks. The ban was a bummer, the Rangers were really cool about it tho' as we had clearly had a fire, but had no way of knowing about the ban.

I'm not kidding, we would paddle with the wind in our face, make a 90° turn and it'd still be in our face. I was fun tho'.

Thank you TallPaul. The underwater shot was fun, but with no monitor on my gopro had to wait to get home to see if I got it.

Thanks Bill. I went there because it was the Voyageurs route and wanted to see it for myself. I could just imagine those big canoes paddling past our camp.

Well, I should have brought a stove with us, so my fault it got cut short. The reflector oven was great! I really enjoyed playing with that thing.

Thank you Jayson. I will say Ontario takes the ban seriously. Every gas station or store we stopped at had a sign at the counter saying no fires. They do a good job of getting the word out.
    Good luck,
