Sorry to revive an older thread but since Ramblinrev brought up the HH Hex Fly, other than weight how does this compare to the larger fly's you all are talking about?
There are 2 HH Hex flys. One is heavier, and was an alternative you could order at the same price. It is a pretty good fly, provides a lot more coverage on the sides ( with an 11 foot ridge, I think), but it is heavier than the stock tarp, a lot. More than twice as heavy or even more, I think.
The other tarp has an even longer ridge ( 12 feet?), provides even more coverage. You can see it in my avatar pic in the upper left of my post, covering a Speer 8.5 and PeaPod. It is Sil-Nylon, weighs about 19 oz. It is not cat cut but surprisingly stable. It really is a good tarp, but costs about like other sil nylon tarps of the same weight. It has nice pockets at each guy out point to stuff your lines into.
