i used the summer quilt rated at 45 down to 24.5 degrees.as a top quilt.i did not have a lot of clothing on,just socks ,work pants, sweat shirt, down vest and stocking cap.the bottom line is was 20 degrees below its rating and i was still warm.neo

IF that is not alot of clothing, what would qualify?
I know you have "ice in your veins" but, in a backpacking situation, what other clothes would you have?
    Regardless, a 20 F improvement is impressive

Just a disclaimer note to any new folks...
Neo is not "normal". He consistantly goes colder with less insulation than most hangers.
That's not to say it can't be done...test temp ratings at home or car camping as to give yourself a safety out if you get too cold.

Neo FWIW, smarter people here than me estimate mid-30's for a sewn-thru TQ (the jacksrbetter shenandoha quilt is sewn-thru) http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...?t=4362&page=3
Like stated in that thread, add enough clothes and you can push down the temp rating of anything...

Hey neo, I used my 40* North Face Alleghany sb as a top quilt to 12* last weekend with no cold issues - does that mean I'm "frigid" like you? I mean, have ice in my veins? What were you using/were you using an UQ?

Neo owes me. I bought one of those $12 sniper parkas on his recommendation.

Well, let me tell you, there's not much insulation in the thing. I wouldn't use the thing under 55F.

It is going to make a great X-mas gift for a friend of mine that is on an actual SWAT team.
