Dutch Crook! Hilarious. Some unintended innuendo there but we all know that is in good fun. The circles may be unnecessary but they have a certain bling factor going on.

I've been trying to justify this "ring" suspension over whoopies and couldn't until I read your post about bridge hammocks. With a normal gathered end, like mine, the tarp determines the minimum distance between trees, not the hammock.

Of course, that hasn't stopped me, as I try to type this post with a descender ring in one hand and Amsteel in the other!

    Dutch Crook prototype

    heavy hanger wire. 3.5 grams.

When I first made this both ends were bent in farther. But in use the cord leaving the device puts a bit of twisting force on the rod. The ends are now bent to the point where there isn't appreciable force against them, at least not enough to bend them further, they just act as stoppers to keep the cord from unraveling.

    Dutch mini-biners

I have a pair of the thicker ones. The cord wraps don't get around to compress the cord enough to hold it in place. Maybe one of those real thin ones would work.

There is a sweet spot I think for the diameter of the bar the wraps go around. Too large and the line isn't grabbed. Too small, and it grabs just fine but becomes difficult to adjust the loop length, as my experience with the Dutch Crook prototype and one of those chain links with an opening that screws open and closed suggests.

I was thinking of the smaller one. It may need to have the edges rounded off. The real gram weenies could remove the wire gate and catch

Just tried the SRS out for the first time today. Simple, easy and pretty cool. I especially like how it allows for a shorter minimum distance than whoopies. Makes it nice for my bridge hammock and when hanging my longer gathered-end hammock on a stand at home. Big thanks to Bonepile for refining down and sharing this great solution.

I am concerned that the flat edges of the biners would be cutting into the amsteel fibers under tension.

After reading through this thread again, I still like the idea of a ring rather than potentially lighter solutions, mainly because it would take a little more effort to get it off the line, and and less likely to get lost in the field.
