Bonepile i am not a good knot tier but i do have patience. took me awhile to get it.
i do not put anything in the middle includeing the small knot as shown from hppyfnguy's great link to animated knots.allthough i have not seen it done that way and will try it next time as my monkyfist knot is allways a bit misshapen looking.
to me the important part is patiently pulling all the slack out loop by loop untill you get the knot tight.after i get it tight i cut off the tail about 1/2 inch and melt it down even with the ball.(this melting step is avoided if you follow the directions from animated knot.)

i hung off the srs the last two nights in some soaking and then freezeing conditions.i had not thought about it before untill the day long mist i started worrying the srs may slip when it got wet.it did not held up fine.
within 24 hours of the soaking the temps dropped into the single digits.when i packed up all of my knots and conections ,larksheads, marlinspikes were frozen and allmost unworkable.i even had a thin layer of birchbark froze to my tree hugger when i pulled it off the tree, but the srs still slipped freely when i tried it,
seems wet and freezeing are not concerns of the srs.more pluses

Thanks for all the great SRS posts in this thread. Like others I was inspired and had to give it a try.
Around the holidays I got one of those $19 woot hammocks just to checkout so I use that to test out a srs setup.
I started with two 14' pieces of 7/64 amsteel. I put double locked brummels on each end. Then I ran one end through the hem in the end of the hammock and used the loop to gather the hammock. Next I wrapped the line around a ring from REI. Then through carabiner attached to a eye loop in the rafter of my basement. then back under the amsteel loops on the ring.
It works great and I very happy with the setup.
I do have a question though why do people always seem to use a infinite loop on these type of hammocks with a hem to gather the end? It seemed to me that using only one piece of amsteel is a cleaner cleaner way to do it. But I'm probably missing something.
Thanks
I was going to respond directly, but there's an excellent thread posted in this forum already discussing it:

Just when I thought I knew what I wanted to do with my suspension. I happen to have some rap rings and ill be trying this before I install my whoopies. From what I read this seems terrific. Wonder what new system I will read about tomorrow?
I've been using this SRS system on my Ridgerunner hammock and haven't had any problems with it. I've used it at least 6 nights. Anybody reporting that it's failed?
