They will not bend or break easily and can be pounded into frozen ground.
Good call. I think last year at the MN Frozen Butt I had to tie all of my guylines to... stuff around my tarp.

Just talked with CryOTheWild and he said I could share this with you all...

He is in the emergency room currently and on an IV drip and having a hard time breathing. I believe he is getting better now that he is at the hospital. Please keep him and his fiancé in your thoughts. Being the hardcore camper he is....he said he'd make the call on Tuesday as to if he was going to be able to make the hang or not. Just wanted to update you all...

I hope Nick gets better and second that he can make it for the hang.

I was out in the area today and checked out the snow levels. It averages around four to six inches. So might end up being difficult to collect for water, but I will be bringing an ice chisel. So we can always collect and boil water from the lake.

As far as fish the Forest Service list the lake as holding trout, bass, panfish, and pike. So bring the fishing gear.

I plan on going out on Friday morning and walking in. As you walk in on the trail about 1/2 mile the trail will split. Take the left hand trail, crossing over the river and follow to the lake. Then walk down the length of the lake to some where near the southern end of the lake.

The list looks like this at the moment.

I should be able to make it after all on Saturday-Sunday.

Just looked through the thread to know what to get ready and bring for the hang. But to try and show up with things I should have I'll try to sum up what I saw and you can tell me if I've got it right.

Food: whatever I want for myself.
Water: There'll be a big pot for melting snow.
stakes that I can pound into the ground.
    General camping gear.

    Anything else?

Though I lived less than an hour from the Porcupine Lake Wilderness Area for the last couple of years I never been there. I plan to show up Saturday - what directions do I need in order to find the group?

I'm a big-time newbie to hammock camping and am looking forward to hanging with some people who know a thing or two....
