    Hammock Converts

Has anyone converted any friends or family members to hammocks? My youngest brother is in scouts, so for Christmas I decided to get him a grand trunk ultralight that I just fixed up with descender rings and webbing suspension. I have a feeling he will see the perks on his next camping trip when he doesn't have to carry around a tent.

I'm a Scoutmaster for a local troop and a convert from earlier this year. I've shared it with the scouts and my family and several have taken to it!

I've converted a couple of friends. My family also stay in hammocks when we go out, but I'm not sure if that counts

Had my younger brother up for a week before a group camping trip a few weeks ago. He hadn't been camping since we were kids, and was curious about the "hammock thing" I was doing. I set him up in the back room in my Blackbird for a week (hurray for finally having wall hooks up), with a regular air mattress as "backup" for him if he didn't like it.

He may have fussed here and there before he found a sweet spot (bad shoulder), but I noticed he never took that air mattress out of the bag.

..plus, by the time we went camping, he was just fine and toasty down to 38° in that Blackbird with an Insultex underquilt and hammock sock.

Doubt he'll buy his own, not being much of an outdoors-type, but I think he definitely sees the advantages I enjoy!

I make hammocks seem like a lot of work so my family does not want to go. My exploits are to get away from them for a bit. They appreciate the break from me as well

Pffff, Shug, you're obviously the king of conversion - even if it isn't your intent. XD

Yes and it is starting to be a problem. Last year I was the only one in a hammock during our summer trip to the BWCA of northern Minnesota. This year My brother and my son joined me up off the ground. Next year my father has already siad that he thinks it would be a lot easier on his back if he slept in a hammock, he has slept in mine during a summer day trip we took. My problem is that even last year we were having a hard time with three hammock finding sites that we could all hang at. If this gets too big there won't be enough tree to go around.!

My 15 yr old grandson has asked me to help him get a hammock and he plans to replace his bed with it. Alright, I will be hanging and setting it up for him, and my wife will make the hammock, his mom and dad are ok with it all. His 9 yr old brother sleeps in one every night he stays over with us, and as expected, wants one in his room as well. The thing is, they see them as everyday beds and have not as yet realized the the fun they can be in the woods, but, they will.

I went from tent to tarp and now tree dweller. I have a bad back so laying down, much less laying on the ground, hurts. I spent an hour laying in my hmmk and felt good when I got up. Normaly 5-10 minutes on the ground and it hurts. I'm converted. My GF already loved hmmks.
