TQ for hammock = TQ for ground dwelling?

What's the difference between a tq advertised as a hammocking tq, and a quilt advertised for ground dwelling use?
Is there any difference at all, really, or is it just a marketing hype?

My understanding is a hammock TQ can be narrower, because it doesn't have to cover as much area, since your UQ typically cover's part of your sides. It just has to be wide enough to cover over top of you with no gap/drafts, instead of wrap around beside you on each side.

+1 on typically (although not always) being a bit narrower. Ones focused for the ground may also come with additional loops/straps for securing it around a pad. Generally speaking, though, one will work with the other.

Hmmm, In such a case it seems like I should have a closer look at the ground dwelling quilts rather than the dedicated hammocking quilts.
I have a tendency to "spread out" during sleeping, so I would normally put that extra width in a ground dwelling quilt to good use.

I bought a GoLite 3-season quilt for exactly the same reason. It was a bit wider by several inches than many of the cottage vendors (and it was on a great sale), but I wanted that extra width because I like to squirm and move a bit. I really like the width of a mostly unzipped sleeping bag, but got annoyed with the hood laying on top of my face (because the whole bag was unzipped and laying on top) and it gave just a bit too much room.

I've been very happy with the GoLite so far. Enough room and solid workmanship.

I would just make sure you get a quilt that is wide enough. If you get one to narrow, you'll wish you had some extra width when the temps get cold. I have a top quilt from Enlightened Equipment and it is awesome. It would probably be considered a ground dwelling quilt....but i have tons of nights in a hammock with it. Works awesome!!! I think even the hammock specific ones would easily work on the ground if you needed to use it that way. Just get the width that covers you with room to "spread out"
