    Tadpole compared to AHE Toxaway

Just got a tadpole and I'm pretty excited to give it a try. However, one thing that I find very surprising is how small this tarp packs down compared to my Toxaway. Despite being only about 3-4 ounces lighter, the Tadpole packs down almost half as small. While I have more coverage on my Toxaway, one of the things I'll be looking for in my tests is how the Tadpole handles inclement weather. My Toxaway left nothing to be desired there, so if the Tadpole comes close, I may have a new favorite tarp.

Btw, nothing in this post is meant to knock AHE or the Toxaway. I still think the Toxaway is one of the best big tarp bang for bucks.

I have the tadpole and have been out in some really nasty thunderstorms without a drop even getting near me or my gear. I was skeptical because of the size too but no need to worry, it's a great tarp!!

Thanks, Americas. I don't doubt it! However, I've got a dog with me and I have a fairly large demand for ground space. He usually sleeps pretty close to my hammock, but I'm hoping we can stay dry under it, because I love this thing. I loaded up my pack with the Tadpole and the space savings is huge!

I actually use a small ground cloth under my hammock that I keep my pack and shoes on. They've never got wet so I wouldn't think your dog would, it was actually a great find at a military store. It's a really thin cloth but weights nothing and takes up no space in the pack. I'll see if I can find it somewhere on the net.

I've been through a couple of pretty good storms with my tadpole. The dog and I stayed nice and dry. I think you will be pleased.

Just curious, does the Tadpole have a "rolled hem" or a grosgrain edge? it's hard to tell by looking at the photos and it's not described on the website.
