Ed didn't get burned out, he became very busy as a geologist and couldn't devote the time required to Speer Hammocks, so he asked us to assume production of his products.

Thanks for that info and clarification, Dale! I guess I never really had any idea why he kind of seemed to vanish from the hammock scene, and I should not have been guessing! Is he ever in touch with u guys? I miss Nottoworry's input!

Ed's book describes the hammock knot he uses in the ends of the hammock.

If you don't hang in it for to many nights you can untie the knot and change the hammock length to experiment with the length vs comfort

I have done that quite a few times to get the best lay.
I agree comfort is tailored to your height, and sleeping style.

We talk to Ed every couple of months depending on if he is in the country or not, but he is doing fine. Talking to Ed is always a treat. He never ceases to amaze me.

You can also vary the length of the sides when doing this and change the lay quite a bit. Just food for thought....

Re: Smaller hammock, or Where did my calf ridge go?

I just experienced what you are talking about. Because of this thread I decided to rewhip my table cloth hammock to 7 feet. No calf ridge, and it is very comfortable! I mean like, real comfortable!

    I'm short at 5'6"
