There are lots of events of this type already in existence. The biggest are the Outdoor Retailer Shows every summer and winter, held in Salt Lake City. The PCT has their kick-off event that is a magnet for UL backpacking companies, and Trail Days for the AT was already mentioned. Trail Days this year attracted a lot of hammock manufacturers.

My recommendation would be to work with the smaller events and work in a guest speaker or demo event. The cost of administrating these events is offset by the retailers paying for booth space. This sometimes makes it hard for cottage manufacturers, who already pay for travel and shipping to get to the event.

Some of my thoughts on this subject.

This is such a large country. I probably would not travel to the midwest. Too far to drive, if I fly I have to rent a car...

I think different types of outdoors recreation revolving around HAMMOCKS, camping hammocks. That would enclude clothing, and other comforts.

I guess it is all in how large you would want to go. I have done a few trade shows for our Rose Society. With the changes in the economy we have many new vendors. Some of them are really trying to stretch their wares to fit in with the rose theme. It is becoming increasingly difficult to keep our tried and true vendors coming back.

Our recent Fall Fare, had a lot of no shows, goods that were not of interest to our members. I thought i had a pretty tight ship until this year.

I would enjoy going. I do not stay in Hotels, I find them creepy. So a campground would work betty for my group of four. Ofcourse i live on the West Coast so I would want something between, Alberta and the Pacific Ocean, someplace between Edmonton and San Diego, CA.

Here in Oregon Gary R and Bigfoot2 and wife did an excellent job of collecting raffle prizes for the Oregon Hang. I really enjoyed seeing and handling the different types of equipment. Seeing it in use, was the key.

thats true,it would funnel people of other interests past the hammock stuff.there would be alot of converts that weekend.this would widen our horizons too.

Would like it to not only be hammock related, but include all things related to trail and back country camping. Such as trail foods, books, backpacks, carts, sleeping bags, and so on.
