I'm particularly interested in the frame around the bottom of the hammock. Does this cause the feeling of sleeping on a cot more so than in a hammock?

Still has the hammock sensation, but no body squeeze at all. Can move about within and climb in and out sleeping bag. You can choose to lie against the side walls or not

    Hope that helps...

What's the anticipated top-end weight limit?
Would it do well for somebody tall (I'm 6'4")?
Are the topside spreader bars necessary?

    Suggestion:
You've got a lot of room there on the inside. Some sort of pockets or ridgeline organizer would do well, I think.

I'd be very interested in trying something like this out.

Not shown in the pic is the partition material at head and foot ends for storage.

Top spreader bars are necessary too
Head and foot end partition was another thought I had...which obviously you had, as well!

If you need a guinea pig, count me in!

What type of material is it made of?

2.9 kg = 6.39 lbs, with a 78 x 24 inch bed, plus bugnet and pad and quilt...? Pack size is almost 23 x 7 inches?

Or is your 2.9kg including all the trimmings?
    Seems heavy and bulky?
But I'd love to see some pics.
