    Hemming No-See-um

I'm looking for the best way to hem up no-see-um bug netting?

the only thing I can up with is to take 3/4" flat nylon ribbon and fold it over the edge leaving a 3/8" on either side. just seams like it would add a lot of weight. I also tried pulling the inner threads out of 550 cord and using the sheath to sandwich the netting between the zipper strap and the 550 cord.

You don't have to hem noseeum. It doesn't fray like regular fabric does. Now if you want it to have a nice looking edge I like to use 1" grossgain folded in half and sandwich the edge of the noseeum to give a clean look.

No-see-um takes a role hem nicely. No need to add extra weight by grosgrain trimming it.

Do both have examples of what you mean. I just got into the DIY sewing and so some of these terms are new. I googled grosgrain... i'm guessing that super thin strapping?

For a rolled hem, just fold the edge over twice and stitch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2v-9...feature=relmfu

+1 on the rolled hem. Doesn't leave as professional a look, but that it can be masked by sewing to black fabric.

Black zig-zag at the edge of the rolled seam works too.
I have found that a medium zig-zag tends to look better than the crooked trail I leave when stitching fine/slippery/mesh fabrics when structural strength is not of major importance.
I think a lot of that has to do with my TIRO status (Thread Injector Rookie Operator).

With a little practice and an iron you can make a pretty sharp looking rolled hem. Just takes a little practice. Tip: when ironing the folds use a piece of wood below. Ironing board covers give to much to get a really sharp crease.

If I am doing a longer rolled hem I just eye it up. That takes practice as well.
