Poncho liner + space blanket Under quilt results

Well as the title says I Used my DYI poncho liner under quilt this weekend with great results. Now to be honest I also use a down sleeping bag but since I always use it even in the summer I have to say it was a success. My under quilt is a no sew full length poncho liner with a original space blanket " that is the one that has grommets and is poly tarp backed." I used Velcro to attach them together then shock cord threw the short sides to attach to both sides of the hammock. I also ran two short pieces of shock cord from the sides up to the ridge line and attached them with a clip this allows the under quilt to wrap around almost like a pee pod. Friday night it got down to 51 and I was way to warm but Saturday night the storm rolled threw and the temps dropped down to 33 with constant rains and slush from midnight till 10 am. I would call this under quilt good down to mid 30's with the addition of a sleeping bag. I did use a top quilt as well, witch was another poncho liner but I draped this over the ridge line and tucked the sides under my head and in between my legs making like a tent around my chest it was amazing how much this took the chill out of the air it was quite the shock when I got up at 6am to answer the call of nature. Sorry no pictures as it was raining when it was time to break camp.

Awesome man, thanks for the report.

I've been fiddling with my no-sew pluq lately, but haven't been abel to get below 50 or so before cold spots develop. I am considering adding a spcae blanket to bring it down further.

How much does the SB you used weigh, vs a mylar sheet?

Interesting setup. I like it! Thanks!

Also interesting how much heat you captured with the over cover. I think in temperatures above freezing there is room to experiment with an insulated over cover. The interesting issue is where the moisture condenses out. ;-)

I'm about to make a Poncho Liner UQ-- and am a little confused about your set-up. Do you have the Space-Tarp over the Poncho (covering it) or under it (so the poncho covers the Space-Tarp?) ?

    Question

I was thinking about using a space blanket similar to this one: Space Blanket and using velcro to secure it around the sides of my hammock with a gap underneath. From what I understand, the issue is that the air under pressure points is cold thus absorbing heat from your butt. The blanket would trap an air pocket under the hammock and block wind...for $20 and only 12oz.

If there is a gap underneath the hammock that is sealed and is reflecting radiant heat back (cause it is a space blanket), then wouldn't the air be warmer and thus keep you warm? Wouldn't need any fill like down would you?

I'm not worried about condensation either cause it doesn't much matter if I get condensation on a space blanket.

Please help me if I am understanding this wrong.
