I've hammock camped plenty of times it's just been kinda rat tag. I never really had all the parts at once to get me through a cool or rainy night. Most nights I was cold but comfortable or if it rained I threw a tent rainfly over me. I've got the double nest now, so I'm going to build my system from there. Space is limited on the bike so I'm going to aim to keep it lightweight and packable.

Those of us with a Big Agnes bag have the advantage of a sewn-in pad pocket. I'm happy with mine as a top quilt and the pad is all I need for bottom insulation for much of the year. I would make a top quilt a low priority, if I were you.

I rode my 1980 Vespa P200 across the US in 2006 and wish I had known about hammock camping then! I'm looking forward to getting it running this spring so I can do some scooter camping with my hammock. Great pics BTW!

Man I must be a really back woods hick. The farthest I've ever walked in the middle of the night is about 2 steps past my tarp.

Best moto camping money ever spent for this rider was the WB hammocks (prefer the BB/Traveler 1.1 dbl), HG Burrow & Incubator, and AHE Toxoway tarp YMMV. Pads are of the Devil (in the air and on the ground) and the whole kit takes up a bunch less space than the now abandoned ground kit (shudder), not to mention the primary goal...comfort. What UQs are you considering?
Other riders ask about what to do when there are no trees to hang the kit from. I tell them that's why we have maps and motorcycles so we can plan our rides better than that and ride to the trees.

Good point about riding to find a hanging location. It just adds to the adventure. My next trip is going to be in Florida and a lot of the state parks either don't allow hammocks or just have no trees. I figure there is plenty of national forest for when I'm in the interior. When I want to camp out the beach things may get a little tricky. I may end up doing some stealth camping or as a last resort cowboy camp. My favorite campground in Florida is Gamble Rogers State Recreation area. They have literally no trees in the campground so I'm not sure how I'll figure that one out. I might have to give it a miss and camp a little further up the road at Anastasia.
