I used to sleep on the ground when camping. I have acid reflux and always needed to find a area where the ground sloped a little to pitch the tent to help control it. No longer have a problem when I am in a hammock. I've been considering hanging it in my house.

Mine didn't at first. I hate doing it but the bed is just so uncomfortable to me that I don't often sleep in one anymore...my year and a half old son has since staked claim to my side of the bed...

Ordered the Wilderness logics Old man Winter... Marty was great to deal with, sent me a message today indicating tarp was well on it's way...

QUOTE=rhjanes;857625]which tarp did you order? I've been shopping (again).
When asked why I sleep with my shoes on? I don't need to out run a bear, just need to out run my camp mates.

I've had to do it and although a nights sleep in a hammock beats a nights sleep in a tent, sleeping in a tent is still better than not camping at all.

Reasons to sleep in a tent:
- Lack of suitable trees
- sharing accommodations with someone where the nocturnal activities might damage a hammock (you know playing charades or board games)

Sorry about the tent, philszone95. At this age and weight, you could make him a hammock out of darn near anything and tie a sleeping bag around the outside to keep him toasty.
I think the idea of a sleeping bag around the outside is a very good idea. You sure would not want him getting out of the hammock when you are not awake. Little people of that age might go wandering. A sleeping bag around the hammock would serve two purposes.

I always like to hear about parents taking their little kids camping I think it is so important.

Ah yes the tent.. good for nothing more than back pains and condensation. lol
The moment I went hammock, things have never been the same.

Glad you at least got to spend some time with your son. Those are special memories.

I've been hammocking for a while now, but what converted me was a 2 week trip where hammocks were not allowed, and there were beautiful trees everywhere! but the ground was really rocky and terrible...

I'm doing a 9 night trip with my 3 grown sons next month in 2 tents. I couldn't swing (pun intended) buying them all winter hammock rigs.

Ray Jardine still makes the case best

against tents, even though he is a quilt-using ground dweller. Maybe someone else preceded him in speaking up in favor of tarps and against tents, for reasons related to ventilation, moisture management and health of the body and your gear over a long or even a short outing. But, he's still a presence on the www with the prose (and DIY products) supporting his position.

but you're in one of the right places, here, for hammocks.
