Had to stay in a tent - never again!

This weekend I took my 7 yr old son out backpacking for the first time In wilson creek NC. He has been begging me to go since we started watching Shug=) We brought my old Sierra Designs Tent since I only have one hammock. Boy oh boy did that ground hurt! No roots or rocks, just plain hard! I am now 100% converted to a hanger! All I could see were perfect trees to hang my hammock on next time! I will have to get the boy a hammock if he ever wants to come with me again. I just wanted to share this with ya'll. nothing you haven't heard before. Thanks for listening

Please accept my condolences. However, you certainly did it for all the right reasons! Now it's time to make a hammock for your son

Most spouses don't....so in the winter I set up in the attic

Sorry about the tent, philszone95. At this age and weight, you could make him a hammock out of darn near anything and tie a sleeping bag around the outside to keep him toasty.

I think the idea of a sleeping bag around the outside is a very good idea. You sure would not want him getting out of the hammock when you are not awake. Little people of that age might go wandering. A sleeping bag around the hammock would serve two purposes.

I always like to hear about parents taking their little kids camping I think it is so important.

Mine didn't at first. I hate doing it but the bed is just so uncomfortable to me that I don't often sleep in one anymore...my year and a half old son has since staked claim to my side of the bed...

My forum name is Fish<><; I'm in the navy; and I hate sleeping on the ground. If I didn't need ground to walk on or measure resistance to, I think I could happily give it up.

My best nights are almost always in my hammock. I have various back pains from time to time, and it just seems like those all go away after a good night's hang.

After nearly 40 years of tenting I had my first hang a couple of weeks ago... -3*C and it was the best sleep I have ever had in the woods... I am 100% converted, just ordered another tarp for my winter trips...
When asked why I sleep with my shoes on? I don't need to out run a bear, just need to out run my camp mates.
