    Advice on DYI Windscreen

I'm thinking about making my own windscreen that would shield a woodburning Solo stove coupled with a Trangia alcohol stove.

Do I use the sunshade material that I used to create a pot cozy?

I'm thinking about creating an enclosed 'tube' that I would just put on the stove to enclose as if in a chimney. Did anyone create a solution that will make the windscreen hold a nice round tubular shape?

    Any alternative advice is welcome.

The cozy material will melt! I've used aluminum flashing for mine. If you roll it up after you cut it out it will stay round when you unroll it. I've also used 4" aluminum vent pipe on my pots with a diameter less than the 4".

The sunshade material will probably not hold up to the the flame. I think it would melt the sunshade.

A couple of ways I have done it is use thick aluminum foil and fold it over making it 2 ply. Then wrap it up in a cylindrical shape. If you need another one it is pretty easy to make another. The other thing I have used is aluminum dryer vent. Not the accordion style, just the plain flat sheet. That is pretty light and it can be rolled a little tighter to fit inside your pot.

Flashing works good and most cost effective. Some have been using carbon felt you can buy at lowes and home depot (plumbing section-- used as a flame protector when soldering pipes). Jim woods made up a screen where he used cloth stretched around sticks. That would need to be wider so it don't get burnt of course!

I'm thinking that whatever material it will be, creating small loops around the outside diameter and carrying a small wire that could easily thread through and hook to close. The wire could maintain 'round form' nicely.

At any grocery store. Look for Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil or Super Strength if you can find it.

Don't over think it. Start with folded aluminum foil. If it needs to be "hooked", overlap it and use a paperclip.

I just had an idea. Combining with what needs to hold your foam mattress together while you carry it on a backpack --- would there be a reqally lightweight short tube (10 - 15 inches long) that can have dual purpose?
