Well congrats to all of you who have the privilege of having your spouses accompany you (hiking, backpacking, paddling, hammocking and so forth) on your outdoor activities.

My wife likes to hike but because of her fibromyalgia she cannot stand to have much on her back. I had bought her a small backpack and she hated it. Still trying to find a small pack she can use where she can carry her clothes and toiletries in and I would carry everything else in my pack.

We can do kayak camping together but there is not a lot of places around here close by to do that activity. We just mostly do day paddling together.

I scuba dive but she can't because of her asthma.

We do get to go on fossil collecting field rips once a month so I can't complain too much. We have been married for 30 years and anything I can find where we can share activities together outdoors is always a plus.

Look at dixon packs. They are packs on rollers. I have fibro too and had trouble finding a pack that would work. I ended up with an Osprey Kestrel. She may just be too tender to carry a pack, no matter how small. Sleeping in the hammock is much better for me than a bed.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

In my opinion, just get your wife all the gear, wrap it up in a box and give her a ready to go kit. Then take her to the woods show how everything goes together and start hanging; and just to be safe, make her breakfast in the morning. Then if it doesn't work out you cam always put the gear up in the for sale thread. But I think that once she enjoys the comfort of a hammock there will be no issues or second thoughts.

Sound promising for you, and with all the UL gear available, there should be an easy 15# or less rig for her, especially if you carry all the extra stuff. Hope it works, you both will be glad.

Wow folks. Thank you so much for all the replies and ideas. Christmas is coming, so maybe I could put a big, albeit ultra-light, box of stuff under the tree for her... hmmmm....

Now I need to find the "idiots list to a complete UL kit from the ground up." I tend to suffer paralysis from analysis....

    Thanks again,
    G

I'd say I suffer from it as well but that's not true... Everyone around me suffers from it I enjoy it quite thoroughly...

Thanks Brandon. That is a good start. However, between those two threads are 28 pages of discussion and external links to read and analyze...
    Agghhhh, I'm locked up again

Monkeyd, I frequently enjoy my analysis as well. It's only when I have to actually DO something with it I get nervous....

What some enterprising person should do is stock up on the SUL stuff from the different manufacturers and sell complete kits... Well, maybe that's not the BEST business plan, but it would make the decisions easier....
