im glad for you that its working out the way you would like, but if i had to hike with my wife it would be a break neck pace to get to the top, so i could jump off.

Congrats! The wife is a fun hiking partner, I know from experience (pre-kids that is).

Check out the backpacking light website for ideas on how to reduce the pack weight. Someone that small will have smaller gear, which is good, but there are a thousand and one ways to decrease the amount of weight one carries.

    Have fun!

That's when you get into meta-analysis. Questions like "how much analysis is enough", "what are the consequences of only analyzing this far", and my favorite "how much analysis do I actually have the data to do" become useful. Eventually you either figure out what you need or...

Backpackinglight is a great source. I thought you had to subscribe to do anything on the site. But it appears I can lurk the forums for free..
    Thanks!

Some years back I got my wife a TNF Cat's Meow for Christmas ...only thing that saved X-mas that year was there was some serious bling in her stocking!!! eek:

Good luck with your UL package!

I would be cautious about getting her backpacking gear for Christmas unless you give a gift of something you absolutely know she would like. I whitewater kayak, kayak tour, camp, hammock camp, hike, etc., but I would be disappointed if my hubby selected equipment for me. I like to do the analysis myself. My 6'2" husband sometimes just doesn't understand that the needs for his 5'6" 125lb wife are different than his.

    Just my $0.02.

I've gotten my girlfriend gear for every birthday and Christmas for past decade. She's my hiking and paddling partner. Best times are the ones we share outdoors. When backpacking I carry everything except her clothes and sleeping bag. In Warmer weather she only needs small daypack

Two hammocks+three trees is good. Our favorite.

Two hammocks, two trees can work.
The tall person is hanging higher. My husband is tall, I am short, always closer to the ground.
Heads opposite directions. You can hold hands.

( We have hung in two trees after we saw Mama bear and three cubs twice in one 24hr period.
I didn't want a cute little cub between us when Mama was looking for it. )

Good gear ! Good luck !
    Happy Trails !

There are a lot posts on how to hang two hammocks side by side or top/ bottom. I haven't tried the bunk bed style, but I use three methods for side by side. 1. Use three trees 2. have one set of tree straps on one side on the trees and one set on the other side. It's a little snugger than the three tree method, but works. 3. made 1" x 2" spreader bars for both ends of the hammocks while using two trees. Someone posted the plan on here a while back, can't find the link right now.
