Wife as a potential hiking buddy

Look at dixon packs. They are packs on rollers. I have fibro too and had trouble finding a pack that would work. I ended up with an Osprey Kestrel. She may just be too tender to carry a pack, no matter how small. Sleeping in the hammock is much better for me than a bed.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was at REI last night and saw the REI Stoke 29 Pack and it only weights 1 lb 8 ozs and will carry up to 10 pounds comfortably. I am thinking of getting one of these for her and having her carry her clothes and toiletries and I would carry all of my stuff, cooking supplies, food for both and hammocks (and accessories) for both of us.

I think this may work as long as I don't get overweighted myself. I will let you know how it goes.

Well I found a backpack at REI by REI called the Stroke 29 that only weights a pound and a half. I took the wife by on Saturday evening to return a shirt I had bought for myself that she didn't like and showed the pack to her. She said it was light weight and didn't seem to bother her back but that was with it empty. I am thinking of going ahead and getting one for her and seeing if I can at least get her to try it out on very short trips and she if she can tolerate it. Wish me luck.

Hey Polkster,
If you live that close to an REI why not let her put a little weight in the pack to try? I have to drive two hours to my closest REI, so it's more of a day trip for us.

Got my wife involved in hiking a few years ago. She is addicted to it! Bought a vertex cause she does not like sleeping alone in the mountains. Just gotta remember to buy the spouse the same or higher quality gear that you get! What ever she wants for hiking she gets! Did a 5 day hike in the Catskills last year warmest it got 23f coldest around -10 below! she was warm and happy! Nothing better than sharing the experience with a partner!
