Welcome to the forums. As mentioned above, Cold Butt Syndrome is awful, but easily defeated with an under quilt. If you are good with a sewing machine, you can make your own.
Having two full sized hammocks is unnecessary for a single trip, as you can use a smaller hammock for your gear, or even sit it on the ground next to your hammock.

I highly recommend the Shug video series listed above by Mad777. Not only are they informative but wildly humorous.

Welcome to HF from So. Indiana! As a noob myself, I can't add to the references already cited. I will add that you should review them thoroughly and peruse this site. You will find almost everything you need...plus some wonderful people who will share their experiences with anyone. All they really ask is that you share your own and be respectful. Love the handle, by the way...reminds me of everyone's privilege and responsibilities!

Thanks all for the welcome. Also I'm from Lansing, Michigan. CBS was felt for sure when I was in it. Also as asked, I don't usually mind the mosquitoes but I might get a net. TIME TO DO RESEARCH!

Yup, looks like everyone just about covered it. All that is left for me to say is welcome to the forum...

A big Howdy Doo from southern Ohio!! Watch you some Shug and get out in the woods and just do it After being a ground dweller most of my life this has made camping like a whole new way of life for me, and now all my backpacking buddies who have joined the world of hanging too. And yes cold butt syndrome is bad, very very bad. Getcha an under quilt asap. Or a cheap closed cell foam pad from Walmart will do wonders until you get an underquilt. ENJOY!!

The very most useful research for me was: Attend a group hang in your area (after watching all Shug's "Noobs" videos and trying a few things in the back yard).

I have attended four this year (still a newbie).

The people are just as helpful in person as on this forum - and you get to see many options too. I've made new friends.
