Hi all,
Does anyone know if REI's climbing webbing is polyester? Or is most of it nylon?
Thinking about picking some up to make some quick tree straps.

Hey Brandon,
I am sure there is, just try to avoid nylon and find polyester straps, min of 1" wide. I have found the cottage vendors here seem to have the lightest, thinnest and strongest stuff available for our interests. So if you can wait a couple days, I would peruse the vendors first.
Climbing webbing is nylon from what little I know about it. I've never noticed anything from REI that I thought was appropriate for tree straps. It's intended to "give."
strapworks has it, even Amazon sells some nice stuff.

Many folks use polyester webbing found on ratcheting tie down straps that can be found at Wal-Mart, Harbor Freight, etc. I think they are pretty cheap; you just have to get the metal hardware off. I have never tried it but it is a popular source. I usually get my webbing from Strapworks.com.
Ok, thanks for the reply. Just thought I'd ask since REI is 10 minutes away (for better or worse... mostly worse... ha!) and I'll be going by there, anyway.
I'll probably just buy Atlas Straps for this weekend to use and then order some polyester straps and toggles from Arrowhead to use after. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to find any polyester webbing locally, but I'll double check at REI just to be sure.

Check the label carefully to make sure you don't get nylon. I have tried the tubular nylon climbing stuff at REI and had stretch issues. That seems to be the common theme for many forum members.
Harbor Freight, Lowes, Home Depot, hardware store. Just buy some tie downs and if it's just for the weekend, don't cut 'em, just figure a way to use them as is and you end up with a pair of tie downs anyway...
Most anything will work as long as it's rated for some weight and is wide enough not to harm the trees.

Just bought some polyester ratchet straps at the Depot for $3.47 a piece! 15' they work great!

Yep! I grabbed 2 12' ft. polyester straps at Harbor Freight today for $4.50! Rated to 320 lbs working. They're ugly yellow, but they'll do fine for now! Haha! Much better than paying $30 for a set of heavy ENO Atlas Straps, although those straps have a slightly different purpose.
