    Help with the cold

Just starting out hanging and had planned a trip this weekend in the hammocks with my son and the low is going to be in the thirties.
I am concerned about staying warm. I am going to use a ccf pad and a no-sew plug.
We will be using 20 degree sleeping bags.
Will that be enough to stay warm?
I also have a roll of relflextic. Wondering if i need to cut some to add under the pad for extra insulation?
    Thanks

Any chance you can throw together a couple of hammock socks for the both of you. That will really help your micro climate. The CCF pad will help, but it'll also depend on if your both hot or cold sleepers when outside. I stress outside, because some are cold sleepers outside in the woods, but hot sleepers at home (I'm one of those). I also don't know what age bracket you are talking about with concerns to your son.

We used the PLUQ our first year, they're nice, but very limited. We'd supplement with a down throw pinned onto the top, refectix, and our hammock socks. Bring the tarps down low and shut off the ends if your able to.

To play it safe, you should always field test at home or close to home first. Have a quick bail out available.

If you are not warm enough, it won't be due to not having enough under you. You may need to get more on the sides at your shoulder area. A piece of ccf cut to fit the width of the hammock will provide all you need there. If you have some reflectix laying around, a couple sections can be placed strategically in cold spots also. I didn't see what hammock you are using. Pads work much better between the layers in a DL hammock.

DuctTape has a good thought on that too. What he is referring to is also an SPE (segmented pad extender) so that your shoulder and hip areas are more covered with the CCF. You can use tape to do this for now, or run paracord through to hold the pieces together. CCF pads don't cover you in a hammock like they do on the ground.

I'm a rank beginner with only one night last week at 34* but was fine. Diva's sock suggestion is very good because of the wind chill factor, which I experienced -- was glad to have a partial sock to keep the wind at bay. The next two nights in the 40's were made nicer with the micro-climate created by the partial cotton twill sock. Enjoyed the moon and stars until time for sleep and then pulled it over. I did not have a tarp for the three nights because the sky was clear and forecasted to be so. We are still in drought conditions here and wish I could test some things in the rain.

I slept in a 20* bag in my hammock with a DIY 20* sleeping bag modification UQ and the cotton twill half-sock on the SRL. I wore down booties, sweats, and a wool knit ski cap.

Been looking at canvas socks but those are for very cold, apparently, so a quick-sewn one of cheap, lighteweight nylon or polyester would suit you, probably.

Yes, take the Refletix -- it will cover you.

But I defer to more experienced souls.
