    Ultralight Hammock Style

I'm relatively new to this forum, and enjoy reading the posts. I'm really interested in the gear everyone carries, when backpacking, to keep the pack weight really light.

If you can, please put your gear lists here: pack, stove, hammock, tarp, top quilt, underquilt, clothing items, etc etc etc.

    Thanks so much!

well, I don't have an ultralight setup totally but here is a list of my UL components of my BP list:

Stove- penny stove for boiling water for meals, works like a champ
    hammock- BIAS WWM
med kit- old pill bottle with tylenol, neosporin, couple of bandaids, sleeping pills, ear plugs in case I can't sleep, water tablets
fishing kit- also a pillbottle with assorted line (about 10y of 2 diff strengths), sinkers, and a lure

That sums it up for the ultralight stuff. My tarp ain't cuben yet, but there are some good ones out there. I'm searching for an underquilt/ tq to get to lower temps, any down ones will be the lightest depending on the temps at night. Also, ULA brand packs are good and light for the ultra-light kind of person. Good luck on your ventures and keep us all updated.

    For 40* and above trips:
Hammock & bugnet with suspension = 1 pound
    Tarp = 1pound
    Top & bottom quilts = 1-1/4 pounds
    Complete kitchen = 1/4 pound
First aid + headlamp, misc = 1 pound
Total clothing incl. shoes = 3 pounds
    Pack = 1-1/4 pounds

Add food, water & fuel depending on trip length.

Mine is evolving as we speak but as of right now...

Hammock: BIAS WWM, DH Darien UL
    Tarp: Zpacks 4S Cuben
    Pack: Osprey Exos 46
    Stove: DIY Starlyte, Penny stove
Cook pot: Heiny Pot w/ cozy
TQ: Custom HG 10d 20*, STS Thermolite reactor converted to top sheet
UQ Custom HG Phincubator M50/10d 20*, DIY 1.5 layer 7/8 IX UQ
Clothing: Pat Cap 3 baselayers, Down jackets, O.R. windshirt
    Water Filter: Sawyer Squeeze

I can give you specific weights if you want but I definitely qualify as UL in the summer and I think I am darn close for winter as well.

I'll play...it's not the lightest but it might give you an idea.

    Big 3 plus 1:

    • Golite Jam 50L - 30 oz.
    • Tarp w/ stakes - 25.6 oz.
    • DIY Hammock w/ Whoopies - 14 oz.
    • Thinlight Pad (CCF) - 8 oz.
    • DIY Quilt - 31 oz.
    • 2x Tree Straps - 14 oz.

    Total Weight: 94.6 oz.

    Cooking/Hygiene:

    • DIY Fosters Pot w/ DIY Elite Stove - 6 oz.
    • TP/Wipes, Dr. Bonners, Bandana - 5 oz.
    • Toothbrush/Toothpaste - 2 oz.

    Total Weight: 13 oz.

    First Aid/Water Treatment:

    • Assorted First Aid - 3 oz.
    • Aqua Mira Frontier Pro - 2 oz.

    Total Weight: 5 oz.

    Tools/Lighting:

    • $0.99 Flashlight - 3 oz.
    • Leatherman Squirt PS4 - 2 oz.

    Total Weight: 5 oz.

    Extra Clothing/Sleepwear:

    • Uniqlo Down Hoody - 10.12 oz.
    • Old Navy Longjohns - 6 oz.
    • Champion Capilene Longsleeve - 6 oz.
    • Fleece Gloves - 2 oz.
    • Old Navy Fleece Beanie - 2 oz.
    • New Balance running socks - 2 oz.
    • Rain Poncho - 3 oz.

    Total Weight: 31.12 oz.

    Ditty Items:

    • Lighter - 1 oz.
    • Mylar Blanket - 2 oz.
    • Sewing Kit - 1 oz.
    • Mirror - 1 oz.
    • Bug headnet - .5 oz.
    • Nylon Food bag/Rope - 5 oz
    .

    Total Weight: 10.5 oz.

Grand Total/Base Pack Weight: 159.22 oz. or 9.95 lbs.

NOTE: I just noticed I didn't include water bottles I typically use Smartwater bottles since I can use my Frontier Pro filter with it.

I don't bring a whistle since my backpack has one on the sternum buckle. I don't use DEET and Sunscreen...I wear an ExOfficio Long Sleeve shirt when I hike in buggy/sunny weather. I don't like using headlamps, so I just bring a cheap-o LED 99 cent store flashlight. Sometimes I bring a folding small knife but I've learned to leave that extra 5 .oz of weight at home and settle for just my leatherman.

I'm sure there are other items I'm missing but the weight is consistent. With food, water, and fuel, I've been regularly under 20 lbs. Also, the list above does not include the clothes I wear and the camera I bring.

    I hope this helps

    Ultralite - Maybe, maybe not

    Wolf

Check my gear list for my planned George AT Section Hike this spring. My base weight comes in at just under 13# without food and water and that's not even consider light over at the Whiteblaze Forum Some of the members here can get their gear even lighter than that. But considering what my base weight was for the NJ Section I did I'm pretty darn happy about where I'm at now.
