I've made myself an underquilt that's about 2/3 20*. I like it pretty well. For me it's about light and small packing. I don't mind putting a jacket that I'm carrying anyway under my legs.

With our powers combined... we should be able to get these hammocks out of the dirt.

I hope you managed to get the santa note completed, as you left us hanging by a letter and some puncuation on your post...It's like that was more important than what you had to say here. Good luck on your xmas gift.
Sounds like you have it figured out. But consider having your UQ made with 1 or 2oz of overstuff if you are not a warm sleeper or there is a chance of going below that 0* mark it will still vent just fine up to 40*. The mountains in Japan get COLD in the winter you just might get below 0 and the extra insurance is worth it IMHO.

Also ask your unsaid site of they are offering hydrophobic 900+ down yet, it can be pretty humid in the mountains in Japan and this will give you a bit of leeway in keeping your loft up. My unsaid order from equally unsaid site is ordering in a batch at my request for my new Downey goodness.

I would go with the full length 20*. I diyed a 3/4 insultex up earlier this week. I'm very happy with the warmth, but I wish it was 5-10 inches longer. For temps I don't want to be to hot to sleep and most of my camping is between May & Sept .

I chose the FL 20* with it being a good 3-season & the length covers my whole body.
If my back and/or my feet get cold, I'll be freezing the whole time camping.
I'm just starting out & I have just ordered the 20*top/20*under quilts.
For my birthday this coming year I'm buying myself the Clark tx-250 hammock. So by spring I'll be ready to go...toasty warm. In Minnesota you never know what temp. mother nature has in store for you.
I'm at that age now where comfort over wt. is more important. (within reason)
