So like an overexcited child on christmas, I cut open the box containing my new Warbonnet underquilt (despite the clear and large warnings not to cut it open) and there is a small hole now. How do I go about patching it effectively?

Ripstop repair tape here. This product is available at most sports stores. Comes in several colors.
Or sew the slice closed and dab a little glue on the stitchery to hold it in place.
When I melted a hole in mine, the OEM was nice enough to reapair it for me. It had been so long since it was made that they no longer had any of the original color so, now it has character.

I took a clear band aid (without the middle, jus the clear ends) and applied it to the hole with some silicone. Granted this was for my jacket from ember burn holes but they've held very well and no down escaped.

Take a look at Tenacious Tape. It has withstood many washings, with no lifting at all, on my MH jacket. Two burn holes and a tear from a cut branch and I thought my new jacket was trash. That was two years ago and the patches are still in great shape.
Beer won't solve problems, but then again, neither will milk !
