Question Anyone using the side loops on KAQ's

I've been using my New River UQ for the last few weeks and loving it. Last night I used the side loops with shock cord attachments for the first time. I put a small carabiner on one end and a cord lock on the other end to snug the UQ to the hammock. This helped snug up the UQ in the middle and leg area and brought the UQ up more on the sides. It only got down to 35* last night but I stayed nice and warm. I wasn't sure how I would like the set up with the cords going over the ridge line but it worked really well and I liked the way the sides stayed high and kept my shoulders and legs warm. Anyone else using the side loops on their UQ and how did you like it?

I haven't tried it directly over the ridgeline yet (I may have to to see if it feels even more warm), but I do use them regularly - they match up great with the tie-out loops on the Dangerbird...I use a little shock cord for adjustability at the corners, and just a mini-biner to attach the middle loop to the side shock cord the tie-outs attach to. It keeps the whole quilt snug on that 72" width, and since that side cord is shock cord, it doesn't interfere with me getting in or out of the hammock, either.

I was thinking of trying that myself. Did the shock cord intefere with your ability to get into the hammock?

Not at all. I just unclip the center to get in and out. The head and foot area are far enough apart were they are out of the way. I thought it would be a pain to do but it's quick and easy and I like the way it snugs up the UQ.

We love the light weight patrol bag as our TQ, we just cut off the zippers and sew in a new seam. I didn't need anymore, but something happened to my brain and I made a bid on some..... and won 4 more. At $25 total and free shipping I figured I'd happen upon some use for them. Then I run across your thread which has given me an idea of what I'll do with them to help our UQ reach better temps. I could go this route, which looks pretty darn cozy, but tight for movement in the leg area, or take the picture you have a step further and go with them totally surrounding the hammocks. Either way, I'm not so upset at myself for my knee jerk reaction on bidding and winning now. Funny how a picture can just get the mind going sometimes.

i get the same effect with my old sleeping bag. It is great for extra warmth, and a little more protection from breezes. and a lot easier than messing with the zipper. good stuff

I was messing around in my ENO DN with my New River UQ and some shock cord. The New River stays pretty snug so using the side loops didn't seem necessary. But looping some cords around the structural ridgeline did seem to pull everything together nicely. So I made up four lengths of shock cord with some micro biners to carry with me on colder nights.
