The liner Kifaru uses is white. I think it's appropriate to lighting it up at night and wouldn't care much about the day.

Also the exterior is coyote brown so I don't think it would matter much.

Either way it's going to be a fair amount of fabric so I want to use the lightest thing I can find that will work. But not Tyvek. Something perfectly quiet and soft.

So I am curious: what is the purpose for the liner... insulation?

No, it's just to mitigate the terrarium effect. These tents use stoves for heating in the cold, which is amazingly great but you get a lot of condensation on the interior walls.

In the right conditions a sudden breeze can get you "rained on."

It's not a big issue to me as the 8 man is so voluminous you can stay away from brushing up against the walls pretty easily.

The liner acts as a vapor barrier. It might make it a little warmer, but very little.

    So it's a purely a luxury item.

    Brilliant... makes sense..

Sounds to me that any cheap lightweight fabric is the way to go... Though the magnafabrics 1.0 digital camo might look funny!

Yeah, I can't justify the work unless I find a good color to go with the coyote brown exterior. There's aesthetics involved up in here.
