Stealth Urban Camping

this is very appealing to me. Now i just have to figure out how to such great camping.

Interesting thread. I don't really live in an urban area, but I have stealth camped on public land off the NCT. My only dislike is the lack of quiet...the noise of humanity seemed to be an all night thing, and the nearest houses were within a half mile of my location. But it's still nice to hang when you can...I've even named my stealth camp Humble Mushroom Camp -viva the Morel!
More on urban camping though, I've noticed while on training hikes through town I get strange looks from people while I'm carrying my full pack --perhaps it's jealousy; I'm preparing for adventure while they're merely exercising for exercise's sake.

I've gotten the same strange looks. It's funny that people usually assume I am up to no good since my backpack is a multi-day/week-long sized pack. Like I'm up to no good. If only they knew how to get away.

Great old thread! I still want to do this for the first time (overnight at least). It's a lot tougher than I thought for two reasons:

1. Obviously finding the land
2. Where to park the car overnight if I can't take my bike

p.s. the car is out, so bike it is. I'll need to stash it in the woods somewhere, possibly covered with a camo net just to be safe
