First hang (with a view)... I'm addicted!

    Hi all,

Attached is a pic of my first hang... with quite a view! I didn't have a UQ and we had brought a tent, so I just slept in the tent, BUT... my buddy who went with me (seen in the pic) LOVED just sitting in it and has decided he's going to get a hammock for Christmas, too.

I was so nervous sitting down into it the first time... I just knew something was going to snap and I was going to hit the ground... haha! But all ended up great... I can't wait to actually sleep in it!

Up next... DIY IX UQ. FWIW, in the picture is DIY whoopie slings and DIY straps from Harbor Freight with Neutrino carabiners both as the toggles and on the straps. Gonna lighten those up a bit in time.

To save yourself some weight, next time run your tree straps through the loops in the end and not worry about a 'biner there. Looks like you found yourself a great place, is that at Virgin Falls ?

Good point! I'm not entirely sure why that hadn't already occurred to me... haha! I may do a dutch clip to make things a bit quicker.

Yep, Virgin Falls! First time I've been there. Really beautiful place. I'm looking forward to going back!

Stone Door/Savage Gulf , Fiery Gizzard and Cedars of Lebanon also have some great hikes and are local. Happy Hangin' and maybe we will run into one another along the trail one day

Thanks! My first hiking trip was at the Stone Door... I did the Gulf Trail to Alum Gap... quite a hike for my out of shape self! Not that Virgin Falls was much easier.

Fiery Gizzard is on my short list... may do that this spring. I didn't realize they had trails at the Cedars of Lebanon. What's there of interest?

I find threading the end of the strap through the loop in the end cumbersome. Dutch Clips, however... The Ti ones are incredible. I mean, so are the Al ones, but... well, you know... the Ti ones are... titanium...

Yeah, I just saw the Ti ones, Kyle. Freaking awesome! And worth $5 extra. I'll be ordering some soonish.

It's been awhile since I have been to Cedars ( last time was in 1992 with the Brentwood High JROTC program ) and we used it for the land nav course. It's a great little day hike to just get out and enjoy nature.

I also used to do day hikes in Edwin and Percy Warner Parks or Scout Camporees when I was in BSA Troop 86 ( we met at the Presbyterian Chruch on the Corner of Wilson Pike and Concord Rd ).

    I hope that helps

Yep! My wife and I often hit up Percy and Edwin. In fact, I put a new pack through its paces (and my wife tried her new boots) at Percy Warner last weekend.

    Thanks!

Just be prepared for a serious Dutchware addiction. Once you go Dutch...

I started with the Al clips (right before the Ti ones were announced). Now I've got those, Ti clips, many hooks, a couple whoopie hooks, one of his lights (a great ridgeline light, by the way), quilt hooks, a ridgeline biner, a couple tarp flyz, a few hundred feet of various cordage... and I'm a lightweight by comparison to many here. Hahahah. It's just... it's all purpose-built, and it shows. Of course, titanium is hard to resist regardless of the application. And he's just so darn easy on the eyes.
