    FL>LWRSF>Arbuckle>Nov30-Dec2>Grave Island hang

Ok folks... after spending the weekend hanging and relaxing I have decided that I need some more of that please! This will have to be a smaller hang and since it is a bit last minute I think that shouldn't be a problem

This will be on the Arbuckle tract of the Lake Wales Ridge State Forest. We'll hike in after work on Friday November 30th (we'll leave at 5:15) so it will be hiking and setting up your hammock in the dark. It will be at our "Grave Island" primitive camp site. I haven't checked how many good hang sites there are at that site but my memory is that it doesn't have a huge number of sites for hammocks so we might need to do a little bit of hunting. There is water nearby and a campfire ring and small picnic table.

We will gather at the same place that we gathered for the Sherpa hang (Google will take you right to where we are meeting... here). If you do a Google maps search for "Rucks Dairy Road Frostproof FL" then it will point you to the location where we'll park/meet. It is about a two mile hike in to the camp. I'll have further details with maps, gps points, FL Hangers web page links, etc. in the coming days when I have the time.

This site is the place to go to if you want peace and quiet (except for the coyotes at night). It should be very relaxing for those that come. I'll have to pop out for a while Saturday evening to attend the Frostproof Christmas parade (everyone is welcome to come along).

Come on out if you need some more woods time!

edit: I have a page up on the FL Hangers web page

Looks promising now. Was thinking about going somewhere right after loading up on food Thanksgiving Day. Wouldn't have to pack in any food since I'll be full for a week. But when mentioned to my wife I got that " Don't you realize it's almost Christmas" This may be a little easier to pull off.

I hope you can make it. I'll have fun if I'm there with some of the gang or by myself If I can get my under-insulation worked out before this hang I will probably bring my shiny new discounted blem version Ridgerunner (holy crap it's comfy!! )

I've got a page up on the FL hangers web page... here

    More coming soon,

Hmmm... it will definitely be quiet out there

I think there are 3 decent hang spots with a fourth not too far away. We can pack 2-3 more in if we don't mind being sardines. Above that number and we'll have to hoof it quite a ways to find hang sites. (but at least so far it looks like high numbers shouldn't be a problem).

Attached is a map to the site and I'll be uploading gps/kmz files to the FL Hangers web page soon. I will have two tracks (one stays on service roads the entire way to the first hiking bridge) for getting there plus points for the two hiking bridges, the point where you turn off the main trail to go to the camp site, the camp site, and one spot that you need to watch your step if you are coming in at night.

I think you can make it there with the sherpa but it might be more frustration than you want. It's up to you though (there is lots of sugar sand and some rough/narrow spots along the trail after you aren't on sugar sand).

It should be very peaceful... I can't wait

    Dave

edit: I have uploaded the gps files to the FL Hangers web page for this hang.

Ah, good to hear! I'm looking forward to some time out at Grave Island (you pretty much hear nothing but coyotes, birds, bugs, and the occasional airplane). Obviously you can head out any time you want but I'll be showing up after dark.

    Hope you can make it!

Bargain quickly! We have 5, you will make 6 (if both of Shannan's girls are coming and they are in hammocks)... I think 7 will be a tight fit but might be doable.
