I Totally get it. I have different weights of Ullfrotte wool underwear along with my King of the Mountain wool that I have used from 60* to well below zero on various hunting trips in Minnesota and in upper elevations in the Rockies. Been in several inches of snow to eight hours of down pour with this system and feel very confident with the layering I can create. I typically have a base camp with Wall tents and only do overnight excursion. The only thing with this is it is a little too heavy and bulky for backpacking trips. If the hang is about 3 miles in and I can use a pulk, it may be doable. I will have to wait and see a few weeks out of the hang if there will be snow or not.

I signed up but I am still tentative because of some other plans close to that date. I will know more as it gets closer. If I come I will check the spreadsheet and fill in what what ever the group lacks before my arrival.

OK, proposed site is near Fry lake.............accessible by Heffelfinger forest road. If plowed, would be able to drive in for drop off within a mile and than hike in..................if not, would have to hike in 3-5 w/gear. I remember my first boy scout winter trip.............pulled a pulk, made the first 300 yrds and was sweating like a pig. You have to start out hiking comfortably cold.

I am so tempted by this. Been at the first two hangs and don't want to miss this one
I work the SHOT show in Vegas until the 1st day of the hang. So if I make it
it may not be until Friday. I have to think about this, it's a long way from
Madison, WI. Mac is driving all the way from NC though. Maybe I will fly out of Minn, MN
to the SHOT show in Vegas and then just drive up from Minn, MN. Could work. Need to think about the distance. Got a new Arctic UQ from Marty to test that will handle these temps for sure.

Been eyeballing this...but it is the same weekend as the 50'th running at Eagle River. That blue smoke is calling me, at least for Saturday and Sunday. All the old timers will be there I have not seen in ages. It is a far piece between Finland and there with a 5 mile winter hike thrown in for one night. And probably a snowstorm to boot. Still thinking....... At least it is not IF or Minot. I'd need to wear a jacket there.

I jest (alot), if you have not done any severe winter or cold weather survival training or work, listen to these folks setting this up. They do have the best of intentions and are not trying to dissuade you from a good time by being haughty or self righteous.

While some of us are blast furnaces (me), others will lose total control of their motor functions in the exact same conditions (I have had to rescue them; and it is often very hard work, I am old now, you'd be taking a big chance on me successfully helping you out.). There are horrible stories to tell and you don't want to be that person. Five miles in is pretty extreme for a voluntary practice/noob severe winter camp. Last time I was up there in those parts it was 50 below with the windchill...if it is your first time and it is that cold/severe, you really should be closer to your bailout solution. Like a boot throw away. Just saying...Not your Momma, wouldn't want to be your undertaker either. A problem that far in the woods would be dangerous for you and whomever tries to help you out of a fix, no matter how young and studly. When things are going haywire, Murphy is working his best magic.

It is really fun, when you are properly prepared in all manner necessary.
If it moves, you can eat it. No promises you will think it tastes good.

Stairguy. Count me in for this.
I am working on the travel logistics. Good change that Jason from Lester River Bushcraft will drive up with me and attend as well. I have the same type of parachute to use as a tarp over the fire that Fourdog has if you need this, I can bring it along. Assuming a few group meals over the fire, etc.

Thanks for setting this up. I know this is no small task.

I signed Boogsy and I up on the spreadsheet.

Feel free to add space on the sheet for food contributions if you like.
I'm not sure how much you want to clutter it up.
We can bring some stew stuff.

This will be a weekend to remember guys. Really looking forward to it.

We can bring some snowmobiles too. And Sailor Jerry's. And then offer $5 tow services.
