Great idea! I would be careful in Grizzly territory if you've had anything but water in your bottle.
Out of curiosity -
"The human body maintains a basic minimum rate of heat production at about 250 Btu/hr during sleep, the heat equivalent of about 75 watts, and about 400 Btu/hr (120 watts) when awake but sedentary. As bodily activity increases, the rate of oxidation of food, with its attendant release of energy, must increase. The level of heat production for light work will be about 650 Btu/hr (190 watts), the extreme value for heavy work, about 2400 Btu/hr (700 watts)."

1 liter of 212 degree water dropping to 98 degrees will give off 250 btu (1 btu per degree per pound)
So a hot water bottle will add approximately one hour's worth of body heat to the sleeping environment dropping to body temperature, slightly more if separate from the body dropping to temperature of the environment. Not an insignificant contribution, especially if recharged/repeated one or more times over the course of the night.
Interesting.
Has anybody found a soft sided water bladder that would accomplish the same function as the Nagel but easy to pack, and more are under the feet?
Try a platypus bottle
Get a small dog; Chihuahua, Pomeranian, American Eskimo Dog, Cairn Terrier or any mutt around 10 lbs. body temp is 100-103 all night long. Just feed him good and he will keep you warm. he can also carry about 5 days food in his pack pack, help with the dishes, and carry a couple pounds of your stuff on the way home. Highly recommended... Just don't roll over on him in your sleep.
I usually use a 60lb mutt. She hates going to ground, but she is getting older and can't do more than 10 miles a day anymore. Looks like I'll be sleeping with a water bottle next go round.
