What Else is There that i can possibly DO?!

Ok so i have a warbonnet blackbird 1.1 dl hammock. I have whoopie slings (not dyna glide) and 6 foot tree huggers and toggles. In the stuff sack I'm at 25.1 oz. What else could i do to the hammock to make it lighter?

Ok a few questions, if my weight fluctuates between 220 and 230 lbs am I going to be able to use dynaglide whoopie slings? Also, are there lighter versions of tree straps? Meaning, are all tree straps made equal or are there lighter versions etc? What are some modifications i could make to the hammock to make it lighter. I am looking to replace the ridge line with something lighter, what is the smallest line I should use for my ridge line? I hear a lot about 1.75 zing it but what about something smaller at say 1.5 or even 1.4, is that going to cut it?

Finally, and off topic, I am wondering about the length I should make ridge line. I am 6 feet 6 inches tall so I am tall. Right now the ridge line is at about 100 inches and I am not happy with the lay. Should i make the ridge line shorter or longer if i want a flatter lay?

Finally finally, I have a leighlo UQ and while laying on it on the floor and i have the UQ to my shoulders and not under my head, the UQ goes to about my knees. Should I have a pad under my calves and feet or just my feet? I know this is a subjective question but I am wondering about your experiences. Do most find their calves not gettng cold and only their feet or what?

    Thanks.

If you're gentle and don't move much then dynaglide should be ok but that will only save a couple of grams.

Tree straps come in different strengths, mine are 3300lb bs so are obviously heavier, can't comment on yours though most folk use 900lb straps i think.

The rl in bbs are not adjustable because it messes with the netting, a lot of people use zing/lash it for rl but there is stronger and smaller line out there, I have some 1.5mm with a 660lb min bs.

I don't have experience with 3/4 uq but I'm sure shug uses a cut off ccf pad for his feet.

    Hope this helps!

DONT change the RL. it will either pull at the netting (ripping) or be too loose and itll sag.

there really wont be much weight savings changing the lines out to something thinner, especially if you want to make sure you dont end up exceeding the limits of the ropes

MOST tree straps, sold as such, weigh comparable. some variations obviously.

the pad thing is subjective. a 2ft square is what i had under me in the WBBB.

in all reality, youre not going to save a whole lot of weight, especially considering the fact the WBBB has a built in bug net. aside from getting a single layer, you weigh what you weigh.

Well, changing to a SL 1.7 would save a little more weight but that may not be feasible for you. Lose the toggles and use trail sticks. You could go to shorter tree straps as well since you only really need them on one side of the tree. IIRC Dutch did a video about it.

Change from woopie slings to ucr. It takes about half the material to cover the same distance.

I use 1.75mm Zing-it for my ridgeline (don't change the length)
    6' of Dynaglide whoopie slings
5' of tree strap, 900# strength from Harbor Freight (yellow)
The straps will fit a 18" diameter tree with a 20' spacing.

I've tried half straps with a UCR but found that it was a pain for me at extremely little weight savings.

My complete suspension weighs 3.1 ounces (including both ends).

UCRs can be tricky...if you go that route play around a lot in the backyard first.

Check out Dutchware whoopie hooks setup. It uses a shorter tree strap, amsteel whoopies and whoopie hooks. It might save you a little weight and it is a very simple system.

I tend to use shorter whoopie slings like 4 footers. I have found that length to be good for most of the situations in my neck of the woods. You can use zing-it for the ridgeline, use lighter options (lighter shock cord, lighter utility cord, or even replace most of the shock cord with utility cord and only use a short piece of shock cord for stretch) for the shelf and door pullouts. You could replace the continuous loops on the ends with shorter ones, I use 10 inch loops instead of 12 inch.

Each change by itself is not a lot, but together, they might add up to several ounces.

I shortened my WBBB's ridge line, by a few inches, by prussiking a loop of shock cord through the loop near the end. It makes the netting a bit puckery but it's more comfy and the tighter ridge line keeps the netting up and out of the way.

At my first group hang with my wbbb it was suggested I shorten the RL by 3" for a better lay. Just tie a figure 8 in the RL somewhere that takes up about 3" of line, preferrably somewhere that you can conveniently make use of the loop that it leaves.

This simple alteration made my lay better.
