    Amsteel continuous loop

What length do you need to make a tablecloth hammock with sewn channels? Also, do you thread it through the channel and then pull one end through the other to secure, like a cow hitch, or is there a different way it should be done?

8 inches is pretty good for most gathered end hammocks less than 5 feet wide. Simply run it through it through the channel and larks head/cow hitch it.

You can, of course, make it as long as you'd like. Mine are roughly 12 inches but I like having some extra length on my suspension, and Amsteel is cheap/light enough I don't mind having it.

It's a personal preference but 8" or 10" seems the commonly used length. Here's a good video by TheBrewGuy demonstrating the creation of an 8" loop.

And yes, the loop is larksheaded (cow hitched) after being run thru the sewn channel. If you're using a ridge line the loop is then run thru the fixed eye of the ridge line before being attached to the hammock suspension.

I'm sure this is listed somewhere but I haven't found it, why use the amsteel loop? What's its pros and cons?

You can detach your suspension from the hammock to swap out for another suspension or store it separate if it gets wet during rain.
