how to tell the Weight of Rip-stop/what thickness is this?

    Good Morning All,
I got a really good deal on 2 reams of Rip stop. I am sure there is an answer already out there. Can anyone tell me how i can tell the weight of the rip stop. I am assuming 1 is 1.9 and the other 1.1. below are the pictures of them. Any help would be appreciated.

Weigh the roll in ounces and divide by the area in square yards (length x width) of the fabric.

By the way, the label reads nylon blend AND 100% polyester. If it's all polyester, then it can't be nylon, so one label is wrong.

Cut out a square yard and weight it might be easier, if you have a fairly accurate oz scale (accurate to 0.1 oz). For 60" wide fabric, you'd need to trim 21.6" from the roll. There will be some variation, but you should be able to judge what it's speced to.

Also, my guess is the, "VALUE NYLN BLENDS ASSORT" is the category the fabric was put into. It's probably 100% polyester as the label implies. As such, I don't know that the fabric will confirm to the typical 1.1/1.9 oz/sq yrd metric's we are used to for ripstop nylon.

Hey guys thanks for the help. I was wondering if there was a way off the label. I think its rip stop because it has the checkered pattern of rip stop.

Your first picture is identical to the ripstop polyester I buy on clearance regularly at Hancock Fabrics for less than a buck a yard. I, too, was confused about it at first. Although I don't know the exact weight, I was able to confirm with them that it is polyester. I've used it for double layer hammocks, top quilts, underquilts, backpack components, and more. Great stuff...but it can snag with Velcro. Omnitape seems okay with it.

That is exactly what it is. Hmm. What to make with it?
