I don't doubt it! I found the Mac Cat Dlx way too small for my BMBH with it's 31" bars, I can imagine I would have a lot less room with the 39.5" bars on the RR. That's why I sold my MC Dlx and got the JRB tarp. But, there were still problems, especially if I needed to close one end to block the shifting winds. But the grip clip pull outs worked so great, that it made me wonder if I could have got by with the MC Dlx if I had used Grip Clip pullouts on that tarp?

Here are some pics of a JRB tarp plus GC pull outs providing lots of room over a JRB BMBH:

In this pic, I am using a pull out on the rt side ( small dark circle is Grip Clip ) on the left no tie out, "doors" closed.

    Again, doors closed:

With all the room this gave me, you can see why it made me wonder if I could have squeaked by using them on the MC Dlx. EDIT: still, I doubt I ever could have closed the ends down like that without the rectangular shape of the JRB, even with pull outs. The Hex cut on the ends of the MCD would have made that difficult.

Right, years later I'm still using the JRB tarp that had plenty of bar contact with no signs of problems. Still, the main time it would worry me was when high speed broadside winds would slam the tarp into the bars. Never punctured, but I did not like it much!

It was me,,scraping the sides of the cuben HG 12 winter cuben tarp about 3 inches of misqule itty bity holes from the end of the spreader bar rubbing the cuben tarp,,patched it with cuben stick on that you can buy off Joe of Zpacks, and then made some ethafoam blocks to put over the ends of the spreader bars to protect the tarp which work great. Its the reason I asked if anybody was using cuben tarps with their RR's as its 40 inches wide at the head end of the hammock.
Acer, my man! I knew it was a person of grit and experience, I just couldn't recall who! Was that with the UL? If so, it was probably that little extra inch of bar width that did you in!

Thanks, will experiment on the grip clip or Dutch's tarp pull-out, maybe add a GrizzBeak or two........

I showed it in the videos I did of doing the Professor Hammock Mods to the BMBH UL and stripping the bug net and putting 7/64 amsteel in place of webbing and steel rings. I am seriously thinking of getting a RR without bug net just to try out tho,,and will keep everybody posted as to how it works with cuben tarps.
