So here's my hang-up (pun intended)

    Hi all.

Been camping since I joined Boy Scouts...a few years ago.

All that time sleeping on the ground. We're nuts; winter camping is my avowed specialty and I know what to do and how to do it to stay warm, all learned by hard experience.

There's certain kinds of shelters I refuse to sleep in in wintertime, because they're elevated and I have cold air underneath and overtop me - it's awful.

So how does one handle that in a Hammock? Seems to me I'm just a bag full of meat waiting to be frozen in that situation.

This is the one thing that is preventing me from pulling the trigger, I think. (I'll have to talk to Skypainter the next time I see him, too.)

So talk me off the ledge, guys!

Trisec. Come to the winter campout in Chesterfield. Either for a visit or to campout in a tent, lean-to or whatever. You will see many of use camping out in the cold and you can see what style will work for you!!!

Three great pieces of advise. Also, just think, as crazy as we seem to be, would we really punish ourselves that much just to say we slept in a hammock? Of course the answer is no, and the reason for that is that we are not only warm, but comfortable as well. The three advises are all together all you should need to come in off that ledge. Happy hanging.

Agreed. You have all the answers here. And I say really take up Nighthauk's offer. What you read may sound good but not work for you. Happy hanging, don't forget to tell us about your first trip.

Think of the goose. What creature has more cold air around him, flying thousands of miles, hundreds of feet in the chilly air?

Hammockers are wusses compared to the gooses. ;-)

A little reading and watching videos will get you where you need to be. Welcome to the forums, from Ohio. A group hang would be perfect. Great chance to meet new friends, and talk tips and tricks.
