Congratulations! Nice set up!
Congratulations! Nice set up!
Thanx for the feedback and comments everyone. As Shug suggested, I think I will be fine in it with a little more clothing. I was trying to go as minimal as I could, and then got lazy in the middle of the might and threw the sleeping bag on the ridge line.

+1 on more clothing, like Shug said. I find adjusting my clothing gives me +/- 10 degrees or more (depending on wind, humidity, etc.) on my insulation. Throw a fleece on top (or a lightweight down or synthetic top), plus a warm hat, and you'll be comfy in the same conditions next time.

Thanks. That was fun! Felt like we were there with you...I was ready to go out and stake down the panel pull-outs, but then you went out and did it. :-)
Night #2 in the hammock - and it's 49 days later. I'm swinging in the trees again tapping this out on my phone.
There's still some snow on the ground!!

It's not supposed to be too windy, so I'm trying the tarp without the pullouts.
I told my wife that I wanted to sleep out tonight and she said, "Are you nuts?" I said yep!
It's supposed to get down to around 20 degrees tonight!

I'm laying here in my hammock and feel like I'm in a flock of geese! I've got a 0 degree Incubator under me, my 40 degree TQ and a 40 degree BQ on top of me. And I'm in my JC Penny's puffer jacket! I'm hoping it will all keep me toasty tonight!
I'm definitely glad I strung up the hammock earlier tonight. My feet and the bottom if my pants got all wet with some of the melting snow. That would have made a rough night!!
Right now there are two owls on either side of the field that ate having a hoot off! I think they must be competing for a mate or something!
Here's hoping I can fall asleep soon!!
very nice hope the weather works out for you will definitely be an experience

Aha! Much better pitch on that tarp!
Good luck!
The night went well and the only part of me that got chilly was my face. I tried wearing a balaclava, but it was too snug, and when I laid down, it felt like I was chocking. Guess I need to look for an XL.
I had a little trouble using the UQ as a TQ over top of my TQ (burrow). It didn't stay in place at first. Then I got the bright idea of clipping it to the end of my hammock wear my other UQ was attached. I clipped the end closest to me to my ridge-line. This allowed me to slide it and not worry about it falling out of the hammock. It worked out great! This is something I'm sure many of you have thought of, but it was new to me.
The temperature only got down to the mid 20's (26 degrees). I was plenty warm and even had to vent a little.
I still don't feel I found my sweet spot in the hammock yet. I slept, but it wasn't a blissful sleep like many on here seem to get. I guess I'll have to keep trying!!
Glad to hear you are getting things dialled in.
ON the sleep issue - I know I never sleep as good testing in the back yard compared to the trail.
Haha, well you don't have to hike for miles and hours to get to your backyard. I'm sure that plays a significant role. XD
@TRU: I'm sure you'll get it eventually. Hammocking takes some serious willingness to accept a fiddle factor. Once you get it, though, it'll all have been worth it.
....unless you turn out to be one of the few that just isn't made for hammocking.... *gasp*
