He goes where he wants to go but if it's below freezing he'll sleep inside my tarp on a pad and custom quilt.

There has been a lot of discussion about this in the past, so searching should yield good results. Depends on how large of a dog you have. Mine is about 30 lbs and I dremel her nails to keep them short and round out the sharp edges- therefore she gets to sleep in the hammock with me. Larger pups usually go on the ground with a ccf pad of some kind. I've also had my pup sleep in a super light pop up tent made just for dogs.
Maybe Sandykayak will join in. Last Jan. at the Florida Hang she had all of her pups in the hammock with her. We called it the Three Dog Nights!
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
I have a 70lb lab and he sleeps on the ground next to me. The hammock is piched so I can reach out and touch him or he can put his head in the hammock to wake me up.
Graham sleeps in his own dog tent that fits under my Superfly. He has his own ccf pad, reflectix and bed that goes on top. We've just been car camping and I'd have to lighten it up for backpacking but this setup works great. He's a 71 pound smooth collie and does not like the hammock at all... we tried.
I was told there'd be no math on this exam. ~T.D.
You can always buy those little dog bootie things for their paws for them to sleep in while in the hammock
