Blackbird and JRB Quilts

Mule, have used the JRB Nest & Mt Washington on the BB. Works fine. Not a real winter camper. Coldest I've been down to using the Mt Washington was low 20's. Nest was used as top quilt. Nest as an underquilt required a bit of tension readjustment. Laying in the BB you can feel in between the hammock and the quilt if more tension is needed or wait until your butt gets a bit cold. I think it's best to error a bit on the over vs. under tension . Using the std JRB shock cord suspension to rig the quilts. Didn't notice any draft cooling.

Koaloha did you have any probablem with the foot box with the MT Washington quilt?

I'm a cold sleeper relative to most people. No cold feet or draft problems. Cinched down relatively tight and probably more tension on the JRB suspension cords than needed. Suspension seems to keep things aligned relatively well. Sometimes before zipping up the BB I need to grab the quilt and pull it back into position. When it has slid out of position it has always been to the right(relative to you laying on your back). Only real concerns has been the amount of ice build up on the outer side at the foot end of the quilt.

The BB, Mt Washington as bottom insulation & Nest as top quilt with a layer of Polartec midwt Powerdry as sleepwear keeps me comfortable to the lower 20F on a calm night. After the Holidays if a low teen, clear night sky, no wind opportunity comes around I'm going to test hang the same combo but with a BMW UL90 as an top quilt liner under the Nest. Not a winter camper, just curious to find my bottom limits with the gear I have.
