Well, you've heard a lot; I can only add that Whoopie slings are lighter, easier to adjust, will interfere less with the tarp ridgeline, etc. They're pure refinement!
I just got a Warbonnet Black Bird that had the straps, buckles and large metal caribieners...that rig seems to weigh a ton and was really bulky.
Whoopie slings feel like you woke up one morning to discover you lost 10 lbs over night while sleeping

Have a look at the single ring suspension method, it has similar characteristics to a whoopie but with a much shorter min distance between hang points as there is no bury, plus very easy to make. I can't link to it just now as I'm on my phone but I'll try to remember when I get on my laptop.

A few minutes ago I just finished a dynaglide suspension system based on a Gredemeer design that brings to whole suspension to 2.1 oz (59 grams). This included my tree straps. Should I decide to change them from 6 ft to 5 ft whoopies I'll save another 4 grams. Not tonight...my thumbs are sore! The suspension includes whoopie hooks and a quilt hook to replace the S-Biner that comes from Hammock Gear.
That is why I do it.

When I bought my WBBB 1.1 I ordered the strap system. When I got it, I didn't like it, so I ordered some Slap Staps because I liked the adjustable loops. I'm not all that worried about the extra weight as I am not a gram weenie.
Fortunately I have not used the Slap Straps yet (in fact haven't even received them yet)--after reading the comments about them stretching, I will return them and get the Atlas straps!
My friend Alan (PHARROAH) just got slings for his Hennessey, and we're supposed to do a hang next weekend, so I will get to see them in use and make a final decision. I will probably use the straps that came on the bird for that trip--just so I can make a good comparison.

I agree with tinny from minibull designs that the effect of using whoopie slings around the tree is minimal at best in hurting the bark. I wouldn't use them however as i see much more wear and abrasion on the whoopie and thats why i use straps..
