I like the idea and weight of cuben, but not the expense. So for me, it's going to be sil.

My first tarp was a Kelty Noah 9. Used it in some pretty good rain, and never had problems. I now use a Guide gear 12x12 for winter and my favorite, and most used is my WL Tadpole.

If I was going to buy a new tarp, and money wasn't an issue, then probably a Cuben fiber. If money is tight and I wanted 1 tarp for 4 season, I would buy something like the WL Old Man Winter, then when I had the extra, buy a smaller tarp like the Tadpole. I have no experience with the superfly, but it gets great reviews. So many to chose from......RR

This thread confirms what I've experienced. No one trap covers all situations. Having 3 to 4 different tarps is not an extravagance.

But you can only carry one so what do the rest of them do for you...

I think you're trying to justify something here...

I love my Superflys. I had a smaller tarp before, but the doors are critical when the wind picks up or the rain is coming down sideways. The porch mode is nice in the summer. The only thing better for me would be a lighter version in a more translucent fabric.
