Sometimes I splice, sometimes knot...depending on the application and my mood at the time. Sometimes I do "both", knotting and then burying the tag ends: each reinforces the other.

If there is to be an exposed tag end, I always let it fuzz. Here's why: hard, finished ends are more tangle-prone than soft, fuzzy ones.

Warbonnetguy uses heat-shrink on his Amsteel. I'm intrigued by the superglue suggestion. That stuff is available quite cheap, and I have myself not found the right technique to melt ends.

The thin CA glue penetrates the fibers the best, but a medium viscosity works also. After applying the glue, spray a bit of CA accelerant/instant cure on it. I like to do this on the ends of my tarp ridgeline so hardware (tarp flyz) can be removed/attached.

When shrinking with a lighter put the shrink tubing in the blue part of the flame. The white / yellow part will burn the shrink tubing.

i.e., water. I believe CA glue is moisture cured. (cheap!)
