    Failed to hang in Iowa

We go to Iowa a couple of times a year to visit family. This time I took all of my hammock and camping gear on the off chance I could find good trees to hang from and to show my gear to my oldest (16) grandson. Couldn't find the right trees anywhere. Thought I had some at my sister-in-law's, but they turned out to be in the neighbors yard. Then the temps. dropped to 19 with strong winds, which my gear won't handle anyway. So I didn't get to hang and didn't convert anybody. My grandson enjoyed looking at all the gear and really liked my Mora Companion neck knife. Since I couldn't use it, I put my pack with the gear out in the truck and forgot to take my Sawyer Squeeze out, so when the temps dropped to 19, I ruined that. I ordered a new one, plus a 20* Burrow on black friday. Knowing that a new TQ is in the works perked me up.

New Burrow and Sawyer = A good thing!

    We
Come back and sorry about the weather and tree situation out there, but you've got some nice new toys headed your way to make up for it! I have used my new Burrow three times now and it's wonderful, you will really enjoy it. Hopefully we will have another local hang before The Holidays are upon us!

There are about five relatives that are potential converts, if I could just show them the set up.

I wasn't aware there were any trees in Iowa. Can corn stalks hold a hammock?

In the winter, there aren't even any corn stalks! There are some trees in Iowa, but not on the land of anybody I know.

Ive read that its neccesary to keep a sawyer squeeze from freezing because it damages the filtering element. Basically you have to keep it in your bag and with you at night to keep it from freezing in cold conditions. I love this filter, but that is one huge drawback and has almost cost me a trip of good water recently.

    I wonder what's in a sawyer filter?
If it has a ceramic disk, that could freeze and crack.
If it's just paper/syn fabric filter and maybe charcoal freezing should not hurt it.
Of course if the housing cracked from freezing that would be an issue.

I wouldn't toss it just yet. We have some pretty smart peeps here maybe your filter can be saved.
