Sawyers have a bunch of hollow fiber membranes inside them. You're filter will be shot if you let it freeze or even if you drop it hard enough.

If it has a ceramic disk, that could freeze and crack.
If it's just paper/syn fabric filter and maybe charcoal freezing should not hurt it.
Of course if the housing cracked from freezing that would be an issue.

I wouldn't toss it just yet. We have some pretty smart peeps here maybe your filter can be saved.
I don't want to take the chance of getting sick so I've already ordered a new one. Stupidity is painful and expensive

I don't blame you one bit grannypat I would have done the same.

After spending days on this website learning about water filtering and scaring myself half to death, haha I don't take any chances on water quality anymore.

It's a great read and well worth bookmarking for future reference.

Grannypat, youve got to be the coolest grandma ever! (teaching your grandkids to hammock camp----very impressive!)
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

I had a similar problem over Thanksgiving - took a hammock to show the grandkids (out of state), but was unable to set up in their yard.

Only the oldest one is interested. The younger boy isn't an outdoor person at all. I've got three nephews, none of which were able to come from Thanksgiving, who are avid outdoorsmen that I know would love the hammocks if exposed to them.
