I figured it would be nice to hit the trail around 10 or 11, but I'm flexible.

How about a tentative plan of:

Meet at Rock Creek Camp at 10 on Saturday. Ride share to Juniper Point and hike in from there. Camp the 1st night at 5 mile Camp? Then hike out the rest of the way and shuttle back to the vehicles Sunday afternoon.

If this works, let me know. If we need to tweak the schedule, let me know that as well.

All are welcome. I may bring my 12 year old son as well.

    Cross Timbers Trail

I have officially told my extended family I'm not coming to Christmas

I will be there along with my two sons and possibly my girl friend. My youngest son just got a hammock a month ago and my oldest son is getting a hammock and tarp for Christmas, so this will be a great opportunity for them to use their new gear.

I also have a new Ridgerunner hammock, Cloudburst tarp, and Lynx underquilt on the way (my Christmas) and I'm looking forward to using them.

Do you have a guess as to what time we'll finish Sunday afternoon? We may can push on to the Eagle's Roost campsite (or is that all grass, no trees?) on Saturday.

Here's a picture from this trail in March...

I expect we should be through sometime around 2 or so on Sunday. Eagles Nest is fine with me. I just know that it's the last "official" site for the rest of the trail and I hate to get there and have it all occupied. Of course, we have hammocks, so we can hang pretty much anywhere. Looking forward to meeting you and your family....(and seeing all the new Christmas goodies)

sounds like a good plan (parking, camp and such).
A few questions. How much water should we bring? Is there water avaliable (I think not, except lake water, which then can be boiled or treated?) Everyone just bring two lunches, a dinner and breakfast?
And what are the road directions to the western parking/meeting place?

The lake is the only source of water. I'm going to bring in about 4 liters, but I have a MSR filter so water shouldn't be a problem.

2 lunches, 1 breakfast, 1 dinner and whatever trail snacks you want.

I'm going to bring some amsteel and zing-it just for some splicing fun.

When you get to the gate, just let them know that we are hiking the trail and that we are leaving our vehicles overnight. You'll want to park down by the marina.

    Directions:

From Dallas: Take 75 North to Highway 82 West. Take Highway 82 West to Whitesboro and take Hwy 377 North to FM901. Turn left on FM901 North and immediately after Rock Creek Road, the entrance will be on your right.

From Fort Worth: Take 35 North to Highway 82 East. Take Highway 82 East to Whitesboro and take Hwy 377 North to FM901. Turn left on FM901 North and immediately after Rock Creek Road, the entrance will be on your right.

    So we are parking at
Lake Texoma Marina, Rock Creek Road, Whitesboro, TX
Car pooling over to Juniper Point, and hiking back to Lake Texoma Marina?

(my directions to Lake Texoma Marina involved a few more roads, left on FM901, Right on Rock Creek, then some wiggling around to get on Rock Creek Camp Road).

The finish point should be the marina in the Rock Creek Resort area. If that is the same as the "Lake Texoma Marina" then go there I think the directions that I posted just take you to the gate of the Resort. Depending on how many people we have to shuttle back, some of us could park at Juniper Point.

If you have some better directions, please feel free to post them. I'm not really sure where I'm going anyway

Well, looking at the Cross Timbers Hiking weblink I have (link below), and putting that into Google Maps, then I get these directions from 377 and the left turn onto FM901
    15. Slight right onto US-377 N (signs for Pilot Point) (translation, you are northbound on 377 from Whitesboro)
    42.6 mi
    16. Turn left onto Delaware Bend Rd/Farm to Market Rd 901
    1.8 mi
    17. Turn right onto Rock Creek Rd
    3.4 mi
    18. Turn right onto Stribbling Ln
    135 ft
    19. Turn right to stay on Stribbling Ln
    0.2 mi
    20. Take the 1st right onto Rock Creek Camp Rd
    0.6 mi
    21. Take the 1st right onto Tipps Rd
    0.2 mi
    22. Take the 2nd left onto Rock Creek Rd
Destination will be on the right
    85 ft

    Lake Texoma Marina
    4499 Rock Creek Road
    Whitesboro, TX 76273

here is the hiking web map I based that on. Is there a better map? (I can't read any road names on it, but it does seem to match Google Maps)

    http://www.cedarbayou.com/map_large.htm

So the plan is to meet up at that parking area, decide which vehicles we use to transport us all to the eastern camp area. Leaving most vehicles at the western marina. Then, we all hike back to the cars on Saturday/Sunday. Arrive western marina lot on Sunday, drive back to get the cars left at the eastern lot.

The first part sounds good to me. If you want to wear a tutu, I won't judge....I've hiked with guys in kilts, and that's just about the same thing

The map you posted is the same on that I've used in the past. The "Lost Loop" section is not very well marked and I have been "lost" there before (only added a couple of extra miles to the trip).

Mike, I'd suggest something other than a filter that time of year, yes chemical are slow and cold make batteries die but a frozen filter never actually filters again like it should. There is also no good way of knowing it is mess up that I know of.
