The Older I get, the Faster I use to be.
Looking at 12/29-12/31. Fishing and exploring upper and middle west clear creek. Looks like three of us so far, open to anyone.

Would love to join unfortunately I have thurs/fri/sat off so wouldn't be able to...Hopefully something will come up in the future though! Would love to camp with other hammockers and learn what they have to offer.
Not intending to hijack thread, but I will be in PHX in January (10-16) for a conference then have a Sunday afternoon (13) to Tuesday afternoon (15) for maybe a two night backpack or whatnot with my hammock. I'll have a rental car and looking for a decent place to hang for one or two nights near PHX. Not experienced with desert hiking, but looking forward to seeing some new terrain. Feel free to PM me if anyone will be free and want to join me, or if there are some must-see places. I can do 8-10 miles/day, either an in/out or a loop are preferred but open to car camping then day hikes too...as long as I get to hang my hammock!

Interested? You bet I am. Timing is unfortunate, though. My son and his family are coming to visit from Colorado at that time so I'll be visiting with them. Man, It sure is tempting, though, I wonder if they'd like to go camping while they're here???? Nah, DW would skin me alive, stomp a mud hole in me and splash the water out.

Ok talked to Happy Jack Ranger today, Forest rd 81 maybe closed for season. So Snow Shoes maybe needed. I'm also thinking a sled like Shug uses on winter hikes, would be great on the downhill sections.

Samuel JD and I are changing plans to Snowshoe backpack around Willow Springs lake. Where we can test out winter gear and Snowshoe trial, see how it feels. Just screw off for a couple of days in the snow and still Fish.

will Rim lakes be unfrozen at this date?
man i kinda wish i had snowshoes!
Bosses father's favorite fishing lake, got the report that there is ice on the edges but not frozen over. Game and Fish report says use worms or power bait, so I figure it is still fish able. Will have fun screwing around anyway. There is a hiking loop from the lake to the west and back. I think it maybe a cross country ski trail, will stay out of the ski tracks if it is. REI has rental gear.

The lakes, especially larger ones like Willow Springs, should be clear of ice except around the edges. Fishing is reportedly fair to good, using power bait and lures, but I'm no fisherman.
Supposed to be a storm coming in this Thursday that will drop some more snow. Had about 10 in. around forest Lakes but most of it is melted off now. Might be a muddy, sloppy hike, but take the snowshoes just in case. I usually wait until there's a foot or more of snow before I use snowshoes. A sled, or pulk, would be good to carry in gear.
